About Renaldo & the Loaf

Renaldo & The Loaf are a famously weird English musical duo, consisting of David Janssen (“Ted the Loaf”) and Brian Poole (“Renaldo Malpractice”). They were “discovered” by The Residents when Poole dropped off a tape at their Ralph Records headquarters in San Francisco, during a visit to the U.S.

Since the 1970s, the duo have produced multiple official “studio” works (including “Title in Limbo“, a dual work with The Residents),and appeared on many compilations. They recently earned a place on the Weirdest Band the World website, as well as being featured in Mojo’s 50 Weirdest Albums of All Time.

After their final 1980s album “The Elbow is Taboo“, the duo disbanded indefinitely. Brian contributed to sporadic recordings and collaborations in the 1990s and early 2000s, and David quit music altogether.

In 2006, upon the launch of the new Renaldo & The Loaf web site, the duo were reunited for the first time in the better part of two decades. “Gurdy Hurding“, the duo’s first album in 29 years, was released on Klanggalerie on October 25th 2016. Then, to the surprise of many and not least to the band themselves, Renaldo and The Loaf performed their first live show in 38 years at the Klang 25 Festival in Vienna in June 2018.

They continue to explore their own musical world and occasionally reveal the results…..who knows what’s next?
